Queen Elizabeth and chimps Safaris ($345-pp)

Queen Elizabeth National park is one of the most Uganda safaris’s tourist destination found in south west of Uganda bordering Congo. Being among the oldest park in Uganda that were formed in 1952 though initially it was known as kazinga National Park till in 1954 it was renamed Queen Elizabeth to commemorate the visit of the Queen of Great Britain Queen II.

Queen Elizabeth is also composed of three echo system thus water, forest and savanna. Though it’s the only park with a variety of crater lakes, it also hosts 619 bird species bringing it to the second highest park in Africa. The 6th highest of any Park world wide, due to its diverse habitant, crocodiles are being only seen in Kazinga channel though they had disappeared for 8000years, they were eliminated from the lake by the toxic ash from local volcanoes.


Queen Elizabeth lies on the floor of Africa’s Western Rift valley, which runs from Northern Uganda up to Malawi. And it is in the same Park where you can see4 the Equator though it accommodates 95 species of mammals more than any other park in Uganda. With Hippos graze short grass each eating about 50kgs at night and day time they are always in water. While at Kazinga channel it is hard to tell the water flowing to which direction though initially it flows to West (to your right) from Lake George to Lake Edward. But since the change of water level along the channel is 36km and just 40cm it moves extremely low.


DAY1
Be at the meeting point or office of Accessbudget Safaris at 6:45am; meet your guide/driver who is fluent in English, who shall brief you after that board a Safari vehicle with a maximum of 8pax s per trip. Then drive south west of Uganda on your way to Mbarara. You shall stop at the Equator for a hot snack/coffee and toilet break, then drive to Mbarara for Lunch or packed lunch may be served at the Picnic site on your request. After a brief lunch drive to the Chimpanzee in Kyambura goege for Chimpanzee trekking with a tracker which is likely to take 4hours to the forest reserve. It is a home of 6 groups of Chimps, comprising over 400 individuals, Chimps and human beings share 97% of genes. After trekking drive to the camping area for an over night (Twin/ double beds, beds and bathroom facilities are shared, upgrades are available and breakfast) enjoy dinner and drinks maybe camp fire depending on the weather.

DAY2
Early morning with full breakfast, drive to the Kasenyi Sector for an early morning game drive. The Kasenyi savanna offers a good opportunity to spot lions, hyenas, Leopards, which are drawn by herds of Cobs and Buffalos. There’s also an opportunity to spot Elephants, warthogs, bushbucks and possibly more. After that drive to the salt Lake in Kasenyi where you be in position to see plenty of Flamingos and locals I the salt Lake. Then continue to kasenyi Fishing village, try to interact with Locals, they are very friendly.

After that drive straight to the Queen pavilion Visitor’s information centre for a Picnic Lunch. Relax while enjoying the classic view of the Park and the surrounding areas. Here if you are lucky enough you may spot the Great blue Turaco because you are nearing Rwenzori Mountain.
Take a 27km long Crater explosion drive, evidence of the Albertine volcanoes pasts. The drive are affords a stunning view of enormous craters, the escapement and the Kazinga channel, sets against the stunning back drop of Rwenzori mountains. Finish the crater drive to the Kazinga channel landing site where you will join others for evening boat cruise initially two hours. While on the boat you may see a variety of animals such as Hippos, Crocodiles, Alligators, Monitor Lizards, Elephants, Buffalos and a variety of bird species such as African Jakana, King fisher, Palm nuts vultures E.t.c. after the boat cruise drive back to the area of your camp.


DAY 3
Wake up in the morning at around 7:30 with your backpackers, have breakfast, then after board and drive back to Kampala. You may have a game drive on the way out of the pack just in case if you resided in the pack. Return to Kampala via Fort portal- Kasese. Lunch enroute.
Note; this trip can be done in the reverse way depending on the Chimpanzee permits availability.
The trip is inclusive of all park entrance’s fee and activities, two nights’ accommodation in a shared tent and sharing bathroom facilities (upgrade always available for those who may prefer to do so), all transports to and fro.

The following are exclusive; meals, drinks, tips, laundry, and any other personal item. Meals at the camp consists between $10 and $30 thus if you want to have hot meals to places such as, Red chilli, or a company Cheff. When you arrive at our offices, departing for Safari come with a medium backpack per person, excess luggage are kept in our company store for free.
Children at the age of 10 are only permitted on exclusive trips. Take all sensible precautions against malaria, drink plenty of water.
Late comers are not waited and no refund. Should such incident occur.

What you should carry along:
Torch, malaria pills, insect repellant, towel, hiking shoes, plenty of water, sun glasses.
